Rescued

Dear Evergreen family,

As I sit here writing this, I’m very distracted by looking out the window. The snow has settled in on the branches. There are tracks in the snow, but so much of it is undisturbed. The sky is the same color as all the rest of it. Since we get only a few days like this all year here in Northern Virginia, it’s pretty special. I am distracted. This paragraph took about 15 minutes to write.

There’s the flip side, too, though. The snow doesn’t stay pretty long. It gets slushy and dirty. There’s all the scraping and digging, hoping we can eventually get out and about. Sometimes it’s hard to get out from underneath.

One thing that sometimes happens is that we realize how much we are at the mercy of the weather. We’re not as strong or self-reliant as we like to think we are. Little tiny puffy stuff falling from the sky can bring us to our knees. And if it’s a really rough storm, we might even need to be rescued.

Yes, this is a shameless plug for our upcoming book study on Rescued, the brand new book by John Riccardo. Life is filled with things bigger than little tiny puffy stuff that bring us to our knees and make us realize we need to be rescued---rescued from all the brokenness that fills our world. Our question, deep down, is “Will anything be done about all this?” Will we be rescued? This short excellent book takes us to the heart of the Christian faith, helping us build a faith foundation on solid ground.

Please pick up a copy of the book (see the link below) and join me on Thursdays, February 11th, 18th, and 25th at 7:00 p.m. by Zoom (see the link below). While we’ll talk about the first third of the book on the 11th, please come even if you haven’t gotten that far. I want to hear what you think!
