COVID One Year Later: Biblical Reflections

Dear Evergreen family,

Do you want to see something interesting? Here’s an actual segment of an email that I sent to some of our Evergreen leaders on March 13, 2000, at

11:32 a.m.

“Thank you for your ongoing leadership. I am grateful for what you do. As of right now, we are still planning to have worship this Sunday. A congregation-wide email updating everyone is going out momentarily. If we get an email from the Virginia Conference or the Winchester District instructing us to close, we will close.”

On March 13, 2000, COVID was becoming bigger news. Early that week, it hadn’t captured much of our collective consciousness, and things were operating very normally. By the end of the week, it was enormous news, and everything was shutting down. Of course, that following Sunday we did close. We heard we’d probably be closed for about three weeks. Three months later, we began worshipping outdoors. About five months after that, we finally opened our doors again. However, we’re still not back to where we were on March 13, 2000, at 11:32 a.m. That will take some time still.

Is the past year and a half weighing heavily on you? If so, let’s talk. You recently voted for our next “Bible Bites” topic to be “COVID One Year Later: Biblical Reflections.” We’ll meet by ZOOM (the link is below) tonight at

7:00 p.m. and next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. to do some Bible study in relation to this past year and a half. Let’s let the Word of God lift us up during our ongoing trek through the wilderness!

May God bless us all.

Your Fellow Minister in Christ,

Mark
