Dear Evergreen Family:
We took the second step of our “Journey Back to Church” this past Sunday! I keep calling this our “Journey Back to Church” because we can expect our congregational life to return to vibrancy in steps, as we are permitted. Each step, no matter how small, is exhilarating! Each small step is a reminder that God will prevail.
This past Sunday at 9:00 a.m., the clouds dispersed, the sun came out, the breeze was blowing, and we had a very timely sun-shower just as we were finishing worship.
All of this is an important picture lesson for us. God will prevail. The Bible is not just a bunch of good advice. It’s not just a cluster of stories. It’s not just a compilation of rules and regulations. It’s not just a statement of belief. It’s not just history.
The Bible has a definite movement. It moves in the direction of God’s victory at the end of the age. Further, when God wins, we win. God’s desire is to make all things right and well and whole. The Bible is unmistakable. God will prevail.
This is good news no matter what lens we’re looking through. Whether it’s the lens of COVID-19 or any other, God will ultimately make all things right and well and whole. That’s what makes each tiny step exhilarating. We don’t have to sweat the final outcome. We can enjoy the unfolding.
“Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away” (Revelation 21:3–4).
May God bless us all.
Your Fellow Minister in Christ,
Mark
