Building Plans
|
Intention:
Evergreen Church wants to create a building for ministry which is intentionally
welcoming and facilitates our vision of experiencing God, exalting God,
and extending God to others. Our building will consist largely of multi-use
spaces to incorporate worship, fellowship, children's and youth ministries,
missions, outreach, and a school. This building will encourage individuals
to be active members in the Body of Christ and therefore in our community.
It will also help Evergreen Church be a spiritual beacon and community asset
for generations to come.
Functions:
The following list of functions and capacities will determine the
shape and size of the spaces in our building:
- Worship:
450 people
- Fellowship/kitchen:
200 people at tables
- Greenhouse/school:
200 children (pre-K through elementary)
- Admin
offices: 6 full and part-time staff
- Youth
Ministry: middle and high school rooms
- Outreach/missions:
400 sq. ft. for storage/meeting area
- Storage:
400 sq. ft. total dispersed in building
- Resource/computer
lab: 200 sq. ft.
- Prayer
room/chapel 20 people
- Children's
gathering: 200 children and leaders
- Outdoor
play area
- Entry/foyer:
1,800 sq. ft. ( 1/3 of worship space)
- Outdoor
patio: at entrance
Site:
We must take advantage of our property to project an attractive and welcoming
feeling. People driving by should know if "someone's home."
Therefore, we want some parking in front with plenty of handicap parking
spaces and a covered drive-through drop off/pick up area. We want to see
the building from the road and preserve the youth soccer fields in front.
We envision windows in the worship space looking out onto evergreen trees,
but with minimal incoming natural light. Users of the building and property
should be inspired by the beauty of God's creation (a great sunset spot).
Some particulars:
- Depending
on cost and site layout, we like the idea of the youth rooms and mission/outreach
room in some type of walk-out basement.
- The storage
areas would be spread throughout to be near each appropriate space for
easy access
- Worship
space should be multi-function with moveable seating arranged in a semi-circle
around a semi-circular stage, 2 projection screens, wall space to hang
banners, wired for everything, non-carpeted flooring for sports use,
with adjacent room for A/V equipment
- Residential
non-commercial kitchen adjacent to entry/fellowship area and near worship/multi-function
room
- Handicap
friendly throughout
- Wider
corridors than code minimum
- Outdoor
patio off entry foyer designed as a natural gathering/visiting area
- A shower
in a unisex bathroom
- 11 total
Greenhouse/school classrooms using accreditation standards from NAEYC,
all with sinks and wired for audio to monitor worship
- Greenhouse/school
classrooms will include a nursery and adjacent nursing room both wired
to monitor worship via TV.
- Wire
as many rooms as possible for Ethernet/phone jacks, etc
- Nursery,
sleeping and nursing rooms all adjoining and close to worship space
- Nursery
- kindergarten rooms will have bathrooms and Dutch doors
- Children's
gathering room wired for everything including power-point presentation,
microphones, sound system. To also be used as music/art room for school,
perhaps
- Resource
room/library for school
- Dedicated
separate storage rooms for school and Greenhouse
- School
office with adjoining reception/secretary area adjacent to classroom
area
- Reception
office with windows into entry foyer to advertise that "someone's
home."
- Dedicated
storage room with individual closets for outside groups (Boy Scouts,
food bank, etc.)
- Glass
panels in back of worship area so parents with unhappy children could
directly view worship from foyer area as well as from nursery (via TV)
- Minimum
total square footage of 15,000
Additional considerations regarding potential school:
Determine
the feasibility of establishing a preschool (and possibly kindergarten,
in case that matters for code) in a TEMPORARY site until Phase 1 is completed.
Two potential sites are 1) a portable classroom on the church property
(need to determine where this would be located on the master plan) or
2) in the Evergreen House, after renovations (two major issues seem to
be a fire alarm system and 2 bathrooms, one handicapped accessible). Questions
to be answered include:
- Given
the building plans, which site would work best?
- What
are the costs of getting either site up to code for a preschool?
- Timeline
for Special Exemption-approval needed by Feb. for a Fall opening, so
what year would that be-2004? 2005?
- What
is estimated completion time of building? That will drive cost-effectiveness
of using a temporary facility for 1,2, or 3 years or not at all
Phase
II
Phase II
would include a sanctuary for 500 people, additional school classrooms
to expand through high school and a school gym.
